Maheshwaram Transmission Limited (MTL)

Maheshwaram Transmission Limited (MTL) will create a key component to enable southern India to draw more power from North-East-West (NEW) Grid. It will also help address the issue of power stability in Telangana region. The project was envisaged to provide grid connectivity for Maheshwaram 765/400 kV Pooling Substation and Nizamabad 765/400 kV Substation. MTL will Build, Own, Operate & Maintain two lines with total line length of 236 kms for 35 years.

PROJECT STORY

During the planning phase of the project, we faced severe ROW issues in Hyderabad and Sangareddy districts. State-owned substations would also require bay modifications, and the approval process for this was not clear. The state’s apprehension towards a private entity building infrastructure in the state further increased the challenges.

To overcome the ROW issues in the state, we adopted a dialogue-based approach towards issue resolution with the land owners. We helped them get their concerns addressed, while also ensuring fair compensation was provided. Permission related issues during the planning phase were compensated for during execution via the use of technology such as drones, where 400kV hot line OPGW crossing was carried out. Pre-cast concrete foundations, and the use of winch machines also helped us reduce execution timelines and bring the project back on track.

The improved grid connectivity facilitates power procurement from the Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) network to the beneficiary states Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to meet their electricity demands. The project provides grid connectivity for Maheshwaram 765/400 kV Pooling Substation and Nizamabad 765/400 kV Substation.

Project Detail

MTL is expected to constitute a key component in enabling the Southern region of India to draw more power from the North-East-West Grid and largely address the issue of power stability in Telangana region. This improved grid connectivity is expected to facilitate power procurement from the ISTS network to meet electricity demands in southern regions of India.

  • We took the help of administration and had a 2-way approach with land owners.

  • Approached local administration and concerned government authorities and explained the importance of this project.
