Sterlite Power Launches Special Earth Wire for Long Span Transmission Lines

Newly designed solution will provide requisite clearance for long span transmission lines, including those across river crossings

New Delhi, 20th January, 2020: Sterlite Power, a leading global player in power transmission, launched a newly designed Special Earth Wire product that enables critical clearance for long spans. This new solution was successfully deployed at one of India’s largest river crossings, at the Purnia Bihar Sharif transmission line, at a span of nearly 1.1 km of 400kV-D/C quad bundle.

This Special Earth Wire, which is being heralded for the first time in India, is light weight with low sag, and its earthing capabilities are superior to conventional earth wires.

The Special Earth Wire shields the line conductor from direct strikes and reduces voltage stress across the insulating strings during lightning strikes. This customized material and design has better ‘strength to weight ratio’ than existing earth wires. Hence, it is more suited to compliance requirements of low sag and critical phase clearance between conductor and earth wires of long span.

Key advantages along with higher safety factor includes its versatile application on ACSS, GzTACR, TACSR, AACSR/ACSR conductors. This Earth Wire will have high applicability where there are long span river crossings and hilly terrains.
