The 414 kilometre NRSS-29 project will ensure reliable power access for the valley by augmenting power transmission capacity by at least 33 per cent

New Delhi: Power transmission infrastructure developer Sterlite Power today announced it has commissioned a Rs 3,000 crore project for evacuation of electricity in Jammu & Kashmir two months ahead of schedule.

The 414 kilometre Northern Region System Strengthening (NRSS)-29 project will ensure reliable power access for the valley by augmenting the state’s power transmission capacity by at least 33 per cent, Pratik Agarwal, Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company said.

“This transmission line can deliver an incremental 1,000 Megawatt power to the valley,” Agarwal announced, addressing a media gathering here. The company deployed helicranes in the Pir Panjal range to overcome challenges of high altitude, snow and inaccessible terrains, he said, adding proper planning helped the firm ensure the line can sustain the load during the harsh winter season in the Valley.

The state suffers from frequent outages in the winter season and over 20 million locals do not have access to good quality electricity supply, Agarwal said. “We are among the handful of global transmission developers with projects worth Rs 268 billion across India and Brazil, solving the toughest challenges of energy delivery,” he said.

Sterlite Power currently operates power transmission infrastructure with projects of over 12,500 circuit kilometre and 20,000 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) capacity in India and Brazil.
